I've chosen to tell you about the Benchmade Adamas, which has been with me for 5 years now. It's the second one I've got, because I love this knife. It follows me in my daily work. It's a Full Black version, with a D2 blade.
Let me make it clear from the outset that I still haven't managed to break it...despite the “extreme” uses I make of it. In fact, in my line of work, I don't really use it as a knife, but rather as a lever, a crowbar, a tool for scraping machine tracks, etc. Little by little, I've gained confidence in this Benchmade and turned it into a real tool! Purists will cry scandal, but the fact is that I'm never afraid of breaking things when I use it for leverage!
In all the time I've been using it, I've had a tiny bit of play on the blade, but considering what I do with it, I'm very surprised not to have more play...
Even the handle is super solid, as I use it regularly as a hammer...you'll notice that I like to use the back of the knife in the photos! Nothing has ever broken.
I really like its size, and it must be said that it's a big knife, so it's easy to handle, especially with work gloves on.
Granted, the D2 blade, while a bit outdated given the current steel offering on the market, has the advantage of being very sturdy and solid. The fact is, for my day-to-day use, I don't need it to keep the edge, and since it does so much for me, I have no problem spending a little time on sharpening.
From a purely maintenance point of view, the Axis Lock safety system does me a lot of good, as I find there's more space than with other systems. When it's full of dirt, for example, you just tap it to clean it out, and it's impossible to have it blocked by a stone that's got caught in it. For me, this is a real plus when it comes to cleaning, and despite its use, it always remains clean and functional.
I can't really find any fault with this knife, which I use on a daily basis, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The only things to consider are its size and weight, which can make it cumbersome in everyday use. As far as your wallet is concerned, it's the price.
That said, if you decide on this model, you'll be getting a knife that's ultra-solid, well thought-out and pleasant to use. And this being Benchmade, we're not forgetting to mention the beast's aesthetics, which are spot-on and don't make it look like a big, thuggish knife!
Looking forward to reading your comments on this post!
