At Tellknives, we are aware of the environmental issues raised by online commerce. In Switzerland, our landscapes and nature are important, and we act to preserve them for future generations.
E-commerce can have less impact on the climate than most people think. But to do so, we must not hesitate to use common sense. Here are the actions that Tellknives has taken since its creation to help reduce the impact of e-commerce on the climate.
Feedback
Right from the start, we took the gamble that a well-informed customer would be satisfied and would not return an item. That's why we do our utmost to provide as much product information as possible and respond to all our customers' queries. Thanks to our information service, to date we have no returns other than those concerning the exercise of warranty rights.
We speak 6 languages: French, German, Swiss German (langsam bitte!), Italian, English and Portuguese.
Packaging
We don't rely on shipping material for marketing purposes, so as we receive a lot of packaging from our suppliers, our shipments allow us to give this material a second life. Upholstery material is also recovered.
Packaging that cannot be recovered is recycled at waste collection centers in the canton of Vaud.
In the event of double or triple plastic packaging, the employees in charge of shipments automatically remove and recycle it. Packaging is always chosen according to the articles and optimized to save volume during transport.
Delivery times
At Tellknives, we count on our customers' patience! By adding items to an order, we reduce our impact. We don't order from our suppliers until we're sure that the large cartons we receive are completely full. That's why our average lead time is 7 days. This allows us to place orders on hold when the shipping boxes are not full.
Our advice to our customers
These first two points are immediate opportunities to reduce our impact. Our company also has a responsibility to inform its customers of the actions they can take to be part of this process.
1. Buy smart! Making a new item has a bigger ecological footprint than buying a second-hand one. Take a look at our Collectors' Corner, and you might just find the knife of your dreams.
2. Offset your carbon emissions! Tellknives is committed to contributing as much as you are. We donate the proceeds to Swiss environmental organizations such as the WWF.
3. Group your orders! To encourage you to do so, Tellknives offers a free threshold for orders of CHF 300 or more.
4. Order locally! If you're in Switzerland, order in Switzerland, and you'll save on transport costs.
5. Avoid returns! Try out our customer service and talk to us - you won't be disappointed.
6. Reuse packaging! Instead of throwing away your return box, find a use for it.
7. Manage your parcel delivery! With our partner La Poste CH, you can decide when you want to receive your parcel and schedule its delivery. This allows you to receive your parcel without unnecessary return trips.
Projects
These are our commitments to date, but we're not stopping there!
Our future project, which is currently under study, consists of offering our customers the possibility of removing all unnecessary packaging from their orders (cardboard boxes and knife boxes, plastic product retainers, etc.). Studies estimate that removing packaging from products before they are shipped to the customer results in an average volume reduction of 37%. We are currently analyzing the possibility of implementing this service.
We remain at your entire disposal to challenge us on our Sustainable Charter!
