The Earth / Old Black colour combination gives the LionSteel Emmet a distinctly different character from the more conventional variants in the range. The earth-toned aluminium handle contrasts with the aged black blade, creating a look that is both modern and rather warm — whilst retaining the remarkable compactness of this new Italian EDC.
Catalogue number EM01A EB, this version features a 7.2 cm blade made from CPM MagnaCut. LionSteel has utilised one of the most highly regarded steels in contemporary cutlery here, noted in particular for its exceptionally well-balanced combination of corrosion resistance, toughness and edge retention.
The Old Black finish is one of the distinctive features of this version. It combines a black PVD coating with a Stonewash finish, deliberately giving the blade a less uniform appearance than a conventional black coating. The result complements the Earth colour of the handle and its Hammertone texture particularly well.
LionSteel machines the handle from a single solid block of aluminium using its SOLID® technology. This monobloc construction eliminates the traditional design comprising two assembled plates and contributes to the rigidity of the whole, whilst keeping the weight down to just 65 gr.
The Hammertone texture contributes as much to the knife’s visual identity as it does to the feel of its handle. On this ‘Earth’ finish, the surface irregularities further enhance the organic feel of the colour without making the Emmet look like a truly traditional knife.
The mechanism remains identical to the other variants: a Frame Lock reinforced by a hardened steel insert and a pivot mounted on ceramic ball bearings. The aim is to achieve a smooth and precise mechanism despite the knife’s particularly compact dimensions.
Finally, the REF – Removable Flipper system offers a rather unusual customisation option. The flipper can be removed using a T6 Torx screwdriver and replaced with the screw supplied by LionSteel. This allows the user to retain the flipper opening or opt for a cleaner, more streamlined profile. The steel clip is also reversible.
Designed by Molletta, made in Italy and measuring just 17.1 cm when open, the Emmet successfully combines a sophisticated construction and premium materials in a format that is truly suited to everyday carry.
Tellknives Review
In our opinion, this Earth Hammertone/Old Black combination is one of the most original among the aluminium Emmets. It retains the understated look required of an EDC whilst being distinct enough from traditional black/Stonewash combinations to have a true identity of its own.
Beyond the finish, we find above all what makes the Emmet so compelling: weighing just 65 g, this SOLID® knife in MagnaCut features a reinforced Frame Lock, ceramic bearings and the removable REF flipper system.
A small knife that is technically very sophisticated, but also a particularly successful variant for enthusiasts looking to move away from the traditional black or grey EDC.
