With the ButtonUp C275CFP, Spyderco has taken a rather unexpected step: it is the brand’s first manually opened folding knife to feature a Button Lock.

Designed by Eric Glesser, the ButtonUp clearly prioritises lightness, smooth operation and the pleasure of handling it. Its ball-bearing pivot allows for a particularly smooth opening action, whilst the button lock offers intuitive operation and allows the blade to be released without placing your fingers in its path.

Its 8.3 cm Modified Clip Point blade is made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel. It features a fully flat grind, a particularly useful feature on an EDC knife intended for everyday cutting tasks. The satin finish complements the handle’s understated aesthetic perfectly.

The handle combines carbon fibre/G10 laminate scales with stainless steel microliners integrated around the pivot and locking mechanism. This construction means the ButtonUp weighs just 60 gr, despite a total open length of 19.5 cm.

The knife also features an open construction for easy cleaning, a lanyard tube and a reversible Spyderco clip allowing for tip-up carry on either the right or left side.

With its Button Lock, ball-bearing pivot and feather-light weight, the ButtonUp represents a rather different approach to the traditional Spyderco knife — and that is precisely what makes it so interesting.

It was only a matter of time before Spyderco adopted the Button Lock on one of its manual knives: the ButtonUp is the model that marks this new chapter in the brand’s history.

We particularly appreciate its weight of just 60 gr and the combination of the Button Lock with a ball-bearing pivot. The result is a knife that is extremely easy and pleasant to handle, whilst retaining dimensions perfectly suited to a versatile EDC.

The choice of 8Cr13MoV is admittedly rather modest for a Spyderco knife in 2026. Nevertheless, it has the advantage of being rust-resistant, robust and very easy to resharpen. Above all, it allows Spyderco to offer this new mechanism at a particularly affordable price.

In our view, the appeal of the ButtonUp therefore lies less in the sophistication of its steel than in the package it offers: Button Lock, ball bearings, carbon/G10, 60 gr and a genuine flat grind.

An unconventional, fun and particularly lightweight Spyderco — but above all, the first manual Button Lock in the brand’s history.
