VINTAGE & COLLECTOR 1986 - 1987
COLD STEEL RECON TANTO
It was Cold Steel founder Lynn Thompson who brought the Tanto to the West.
From the 1980s onwards, Cold Steel began offering several versions of the Tanto, then produced in Seki, Japan, and boasting exceptional quality.
They were an immediate success and were distributed internationally.
However, the high prices (totally justified given the quality of the blades) restricted the number of knives in circulation.
Subsequently, the overall quality declined and, although production remained Japanese, the rarity and prestige were no longer there.
These very early pieces are therefore highly sought-after, especially when they are in top condition.
This is a Recon Tanto, the matt grey blade version of the famous Master Tanto.
Even rarer, this model exudes a tactical edge thanks to its anti-reflective coating and its equally matte brass, which is just magnificent.
