COLD STEEL Knife - Vintage & Collector Master Tanto Emperor Collection SAN MAI Made in SEKI Japan
It was thanks to the boss of Cold Steel, Lynn Thompson, that the Tanto was democratised in the West.
From the 1980s onwards, Cold Steel began offering several versions of Tanto, which were then produced in Seki and boasted exceptional quality.
They were an immediate success, and were distributed internationally.
However, the high prices (totally justified given the quality of the blades) restricted the number of knives in circulation.
Subsequently, the overall quality declined and, although production remained Japanese, the rarity and prestige were no longer there.
These very early pieces are therefore highly sought-after, particularly when they are in top condition.
This edition comprised 3 pieces (Magnum Tanto XII, Master Tanto and Mini Tanto) sold together, with a black lacquered bamboo stand.
This Master Tanto is identical in every way to the classic SAN MAI Master Tanto, except for the back of the blade, which instead of being flat is bevelled.
