The VENATUS F Black Satin embodies the Extrema Ratio DNA in a hunting knife that is lighter, slimmer and more focused on cutting efficiency than the imposing tactical knives that have made the Italian manufacturer’s reputation.
This version is probably the one that remains closest to the traditional Extrema Ratio ethos. Its black G10 handle offers excellent resistance to moisture, temperature fluctuations and the rigours of the terrain, whilst helping to keep the knife’s weight down.
The 11.9 cm Spear Point blade features an upper false edge and a true flat grind. At 3.8 mm thick, Extrema Ratio has struck a particularly interesting balance here: sufficient material to maintain the robustness expected of the brand, but a geometry significantly better suited to the precise cutting tasks encountered whilst hunting.
For this version, the Italian manufacturer has opted for Böhler N690, hardened to 58 HRC. This tried-and-tested stainless steel offers an excellent balance between edge retention, wear resistance and ease of maintenance. The satin finish, meanwhile, reinforces the VENATUS’s more understated and civilised character.
The choice of G10 also reduces the weight to just 185 gr, which is 50 gr less than the version with a walnut handle.
Extrema Ratio supplies the VENATUS with a new ambidextrous and modular leather sheath. This allows for several carrying configurations, including vertical on the belt or thigh, or horizontal after removing the rear strap.
A modern and functional hunting knife that retains the Extrema Ratio identity whilst exploring a markedly different style from the brand’s usual tactical offerings.
Tellknives’ opinion:
This G10 version strikes us as the most practical VENATUS F for intensive use in the field.
We particularly appreciate the work done on the blade geometry. Extrema Ratio hasn’t simply converted one of its tactical knives into a hunting model: the 3.8 mm thickness, the flat grind and the weight kept to 185 gr demonstrate a genuine pursuit of efficiency and manoeuvrability.
The black G10, for its part, provides the durability and ease of maintenance expected of a knife designed to work in damp or challenging conditions, whilst still allowing the leather sheath and satin finish to lend a certain elegance to the overall design.
A lighter and more incisive Extrema Ratio, designed for practical use rather than merely to impress.
