This particularly spectacular interpretation of the BlackJack Model 1-7 combines two materials rarely seen together on this great American classic: a stainless steel Damascus blade and an imposing Crown Stag handle, whose natural curve gives each piece a truly unique character.

Measuring 17.3 cm in length and 5.0 mm thick, the blade retains the generous proportions characteristic of the Model 1-7. The Damascus steel extends all the way to the ricasso and features a particularly striking pattern, consisting of long undulations that naturally follow the blade’s profile. A wide brass guard separates the blade from the handle.

But it is, of course, the Crown Stag that immediately catches the eye. Here, BlackJack has retained a particularly striking piece of stag antler, with its crown intact and a pronounced curve. Red, white and black spacers provide the transition to the guard and add that traditional touch characteristic of many American knives of this style.

With a total length of 32.0 cm and a weight of 343 gr, this Model 1-7 has a considerable presence without reaching the weight of some of the larger Bowies. The natural shape of the handle contributes significantly to its visual balance and makes this configuration a piece now intended much more for collecting than for everyday use.

This example is offered in mint condition, complete with its leather sheath and original BlackJack box bearing the reference CH113. It was likely produced in the 2010s.

Tellknives review:

The Model 1-7 holds a special place at BlackJack: its proportions and design immediately bring to mind one of the most iconic silhouettes in American cutlery. But what makes this particular example particularly noteworthy is what sets it apart.

For ultimately, it does not seek to be a substitute for a Randall Model 1-7. The combination of a stainless steel Damascus blade and a spectacular Crown Stag handle gives it an identity that is simply not found in traditional Randall production.

And what a piece of stag horn! Its curvature, its largely intact crown and its size give the knife an extraordinary presence. The Damascus steel provides the ideal counterpoint: rather than the understated elegance of a classic satin-finished blade, the entire surface here contributes to the knife’s aesthetic appeal.

The historical prestige of a Randall remains, of course, unrivalled, and we would not presume to claim otherwise. But in terms of its design, this BlackJack plays a different card: that of originality and the difficulty of finding a replacement. Finding a Model 1-7 today that combines Crown Stag, stainless steel Damascus steel, mint condition, and the original sheath and box is likely to require a fair bit of patience.

This is precisely the sort of BlackJack we like to feature in our Tellknives collection of collectable knives: instantly recognisable, yet unusual enough that even a connoisseur already very familiar with the Model 1-7 will have good reason to take a closer look.
