The result of a collaboration between two leading names in the American industry, this Buck Custom 903 Bowie Harley-Davidson was produced in 1984 as part of a limited edition of just 3,000 pieces. More than forty years after it was produced, this example, No. 2926/3000, comes to us in remarkably complete condition, accompanied by its certificate of authenticity and its impressive original presentation box, crafted from fine wood and bearing the Harley-Davidson logo.

The knife is based on the Buck Model 903, one of the great Bowie knives to emerge from the American manufacturer’s Custom Shop. Its spectacular 25.4 cm blade features a mirror finish that serves as a backdrop for a design created especially for this series.

One side features a large engraving of an American eagle surrounded by ornamental motifs, accompanied by the inscriptions ‘Harley-Davidson Motor Company’, ‘Established 1903’, ‘Made in U.S.A.’ and ‘Limited Edition’. Certain elements are accented with a gold finish that contrasts superbly with the mirror polish of the blade.

On the opposite side is the inscription ‘Made Exclusively for Harley-Davidson by Buck Knives, Inc.’, confirming that this series was produced specifically by Buck for Harley-Davidson.

The blade’s decoration itself has an interesting provenance: the original certificate of authenticity states that the eagle was produced by Aurum Etchings of Garland, Texas, an American specialist in blade decorations and engravings.

The wooden handle features a very traditional ‘Coffin Handle’ shape, typical of classic American Bowies. It is fitted with an imposing polished brass guard, onto which the individual number 2926/3000 is directly engraved.

Particularly important for a collector’s item of this age, this same number 2926 appears on the original certificate of authenticity signed by Charles T. Buck that accompanies the knife. The fact that the number on the Bowie knife matches that on the certificate thus ensures the integrity of the set.

Finally, the knife is presented in its superb original Harley-Davidson wooden case, lined with burgundy velvet and adorned on the lid with the brand’s famous Bar & Shield emblem.

More than four decades after it was made, bringing together the Buck 903 No. 2926/3000, its corresponding certificate and its original Harley-Davidson case lends this set a very special appeal. A piece that naturally bridges two worlds of collecting: that of Buck Custom knives and that of Harley-Davidson history.
