Here, a handcrafted engraving transforms the monumental Buck 124 Frontiersman into a one-of-a-kind piece. Michael Prater has chosen to focus his work on the metal elements of the handle, thereby preserving the instantly recognisable lines of this great American classic.

The guard features an elegant floral motif running its entire length. The pommel displays arabesques on one side and a detailed stag’s head on the other, accompanied by the signature ‘Engr. by Prater’. The craftsmanship is refined, expressive and perfectly in keeping with the Frontiersman’s hunting heritage.

The Bowie blade retains its satin finish and bears the historic three-line marking ‘BUCK / 124 / U.S.A.’. Used without a symbol between 1972 and 1986, this hallmark places the knife within the model’s vintage period. In the absence of a more precise year marking, the steel may be 440C for production prior to 1981 or 425M for later manufacture.

The dark Micarta scales, full-tang construction and imposing metal guard complete a design renowned for its robustness. The knife comes with its black leather sheath.

Tellknives’ review:

The Buck 124 already has an exceptional presence in its classic configuration. Michael Prater’s work here adds an extra dimension without compromising its identity: the engravings remain elegant, legible and perfectly suited to the model’s aesthetic.

We particularly appreciate the stag’s head adorning the pommel, the level of detail of which contrasts superbly with the understated black Micarta. A unique vintage American piece, intended for both Buck collectors and enthusiasts of personalised cutlery.
