Inspired by the traditional Leuku of the Sámi peoples of northern Scandinavia, the Condor Leuku Knife reinterprets the concept of this large, versatile Nordic knife in a modern design intended for bushcraft, forest living and camp tasks.

With an 18.4 cm blade, the Leuku is deliberately designed to be larger than a classic bushcraft knife. Its length and robust construction enable it to tackle both everyday cutting tasks and more demanding jobs: preparing firewood, splitting kindling, limbing branches or even camp tasks requiring more power than a conventional outdoor knife.

Condor has chosen 1075HC carbon steel for its blade, which is particularly well-suited to a tool of this type. This steel prioritises toughness and ease of sharpening in the field, two qualities that are particularly valuable in a large knife likely to be subjected to relatively intensive use.

The blade features a Scandi grind, a geometry closely associated with traditional Nordic knives. It provides excellent control when working with wood and remains relatively easy to maintain and resharpen. Its substantial thickness of 4.5 mm, combined with a full-tang construction, gives the knife the durability required for sustained outdoor work.

The handle is made from American hickory, a wood traditionally prized for its excellent mechanical properties and widely used in the manufacture of tool handles. Condor has applied a burnt finish to it, which naturally highlights the wood’s grain and gives the knife a deliberately rustic look.

The design is by Goran Mihajlovic, a cutler particularly associated with the world of bushcraft and known for his knives that prioritise simplicity, efficiency and robustness. His interpretation of the Leuku thus remains true to the spirit of a tool intended, above all, to be put to practical use.

The set is completed by a genuine leather sheath with a welted construction, whose reinforced stitching protects the blade edge and ensures it is suitable for regular use in the field.

Measuring 30 cm in total length and weighing 310 g, the Condor Leuku remains relatively easy to handle for a knife in this category. It therefore offers an attractive alternative for users seeking greater cutting capacity than a conventional bushcraft knife provides, without having to carry a machete or a small axe.

Tellknives’ review:

We particularly appreciate the positioning of this Condor Leuku: it does not seek to transform the traditional Nordic knife into a modern tactical item, but instead retains a simple and coherent design based on carbon steel, wood and leather.

Its 18.4 cm blade and, above all, its 4.5 mm thickness give it considerable strength, whilst the Scandi grind retains the control required for woodworking. A knife that we see as sitting perfectly between the classic bushcraft knife and the large camping knife, designed for users who prioritise efficiency and reliability in the field.
