Twenty years after winning the award for the most innovative knife at the 2004 Blade Show, the Snap Lock retains a mechanical design that is truly unrivalled. The 5102NK version features an all-black finish, enhanced by a few gold accents that emphasise its industrial look.

Rather than pivoting in the conventional manner, the blade rotates 180° around the handle’s frame. Pressing the front lever releases the cam mechanism: the blade then simply needs to be guided into place until it locks. The same movement, performed in reverse, folds the blade away, with the cutting edge disappearing completely inside the openwork frame.

The 420J2 stainless steel drop-point blade features a black titanium nitride coating. This steel offers superior corrosion resistance and is easy to sharpen. The handle is also made from black stainless steel, with a very slim design that allows the Snap Lock to remain discreet in your pocket.

The removable clip can also be used as a money clip, whilst the quick-release paracord lanyard offers an additional carrying option.

The CRKT Snap Lock folding knife doesn’t go overboard on technical features: its 420J2 steel is straightforward, but its appeal clearly lies elsewhere. Its award-winning mechanism, all-metal construction and striking rotary opening make it instantly recognisable. This black version with gold detailing is, in our view, the most balanced in the range: original without being too flashy, it has real appeal for collectors and enthusiasts of mechanically unconventional knives alike.
