COLD STEEL
MASTER TANTO - SAN MAI
It was thanks to Cold Steel's Boss, Lynn Thompson, that the Tanto was democratized in the West.
Starting in the '80s, Cold Steel began offering several versions of Tanto, then produced in Seki, Japan, and boasting exceptional quality.
Success was immediate, as was international distribution.
However, the high prices (totally justified by the quality of the blades) restricted the number of knives in circulation...
Subsequently, overall quality declined and, although production remained Japanese, rarity and prestige were no longer present.
These very first pieces are therefore highly sought-after, especially when the condition is top-notch!
Technically :
First version dating from the early '80s Produced in Seki, Japan 14.5cm blade (including 12.5cm cutting edge) in San Mai steel 5mm thick Total length 28cm Kraton handle Black leather sheath stamped "Japan" Knife 10/10 condition. Sheath10/10 condition. Rarity index in this condition9.9/10.
Delivered in a black nylon pouch with zip closure
Ouropinion:
Tanto is the soul of COLD STEEL, and this is the model that started it all
If you've been waiting for the chance to break the piggy bank and put a beautiful SAN MAI Master Tanto under the tree, now's the time!
This model is quite simply THE MOST BEAUTIFUL we've ever had in our hands!
And the brand's transfer to Chinese hands in 2021 is bound to boost the value of Vintages!
