The Spyderco Military 2 SC36GP2 pocket folding knife draws inspiration from one of the American brand’s most iconic large folding knives and introduces a major innovation: the Compression Lock.

The original Military has built an exceptional reputation thanks to its large blade, light weight and ergonomics particularly suited to larger hands. The Military 2 retains this philosophy, whilst thoroughly modernising its construction.

Its 10.2 cm blade is made from CPM S30V, a powder-metallurgy stainless steel that offers an excellent balance between edge retention, corrosion resistance and ease of maintenance. Its Full Flat Grind promotes excellent penetration through materials and retains the remarkable cutting qualities that have always characterised the Military range.

The textured black G-10 handle conceals skeletonised stainless steel liners. This construction provides rigidity and strength whilst keeping the weight down to just 124 gr, a particularly modest figure for a knife measuring 24.2 cm when open.

But the key development lies in the locking mechanism. The Compression Lock replaces the LinerLock of the original Military and, in particular, allows the blade to be locked without placing your fingers directly in the blade’s path.

The four-position clip is another significant improvement: the Military 2 can now be carried on the left or right, with the tip pointing up or down.

If we had to choose one Military 2 to represent the range, it would probably be this one.

No exotic steel, no Sprint Run, no special materials: simply the Military 2 in its basic configuration, with CPM S30V, black G-10 and a satin-finished blade.

And that makes perfect sense. S30V is no longer the most spectacular steel in the Spyderco catalogue, but its balance between performance, corrosion resistance and ease of maintenance remains perfectly suited to a knife intended for real-world use.

We find the evolution from the original Military particularly successful. The switch to the Compression Lock and the four-position clip makes the knife much more versatile without compromising what made it so appealing in the first place: a large 10.2 cm blade, an extremely comfortable handle and a surprisingly low weight given its size.

Measuring 24.2 cm when open and weighing just 124 gr, the Military 2 remains a rather remarkable demonstration of what Spyderco does best: a substantial knife, without any unnecessary weight.
