This configuration gives the legendary Randall Made Knives Model 1 a particularly striking appearance; indeed, in its 1-8 version, its long 20.0 cm blade recaptures the proportions that have played a major part in making the Model 1 one of Randall Made Knives’ most iconic designs.

This example combines a forged carbon steel blade with a superb Maroon Micarta handle, enhanced by five carefully coordinated Randall options: Maroon Micarta, Brass Liners, Single Finger Handle, Brass Butt Cap and Thong Hole.

The blade features the large clip-point profile characteristic of the Model 1 and is 5.2 mm thick. Its long back edge further accentuates the slender, aggressive line of this 8-inch version.

The handle, however, is the other major highlight of this example. The Maroon Micarta has a deep burgundy hue that complements the double guard and brass pommel remarkably well. Its Single Finger Handle design creates a distinct indentation for the index finger whilst revealing the different layers of the Micarta.

The result is particularly striking: the machining reveals a succession of concentric, undulating patterns that unfold across the different sides of the handle. This design is inherent to the construction of this particular knife and gives it a visual character far superior to that of a simply contoured Micarta handle.

The brass liners provide a smooth transition to the guard, whilst the brass butt cap – also accentuated by slender spacers – completes the handle. It features the Thong Hole option, with a wide opening designed to accommodate a wrist strap.

With a total length of 31.5 cm and a weight of 352 gr, this Model 1-8 finally lives up to the impression given by its photographs: it is a large Randall, solidly built, whose combination of maroon Micarta and brass lends a particularly elegant touch to the Model 1’s historical role as a fighting knife.

This example is brand new and was received directly from Randall Made Knives in July 2026. It comes with its brown leather Randall sheath, marked ‘8’, with a whetstone pocket.

Tellknives review:
The RMK Model 1-8 is probably one of the most instantly recognisable versions of the Randall All-Purpose Fighting Knife. Its proportions are radically different from those of the Model 1-5: the 20.0 cm blade comes into its own here, giving the knife that long, imposing silhouette so closely associated with the Model 1.

But this particular example has something extra: the five options do more than simply enhance its configuration; they work remarkably well together.
The Maroon Micarta and brass already form a particularly warm combination in their own right.
However, the choice of the Single Finger Handle transforms the material; by deeply carving the Micarta around the index finger and across the various sides of the handle, Randall reveals its successive layers in the form of circles and undulations.
On this particular knife, the result is exceptionally photogenic. Some patterns almost resemble the grain of heavily figured wood, whilst in fact they are the layered structure of the Micarta revealed by the machining.

The brass liners form a natural extension of the double brass guard, and the brass butt cap provides sufficient weight at the rear to give the knife a particularly substantial feel. Weighing 352 gr, the Model 1-8 is not only visually impressive: it feels genuinely substantial in the hand.

We also appreciate the choice of forged carbon steel, which is perfectly in keeping with this model’s historical identity.

And whilst this Model 1-8 shares exactly the same five options as the Model 1-5, which we also offer, we do not regard the two knives as mere variations in size.
The Model 1-5 is compact, substantial and almost unconventional in its proportions. This Model 1-8 is in a league of its own: it is the grand Randall Fighting Knife, spectacular and instantly recognisable, to which this combination of Maroon Micarta and brass lends a particularly refined finish.

Finally, this is a brand-new specimen received directly from Randall Made Knives in July 2026: a contemporary configuration, with no history to piece together and no condition to interpret.

Once again, there is no need to invent a rarity that it does not possess. Its appeal lies elsewhere: it is quite simply a very fine Model 1-8, superbly configured and with an undeniable visual impact.
