The Buxton Fighter belongs to the Randall Dealer Specials family, models developed for select retailers of the brand. Derived from the Model 14 Attack, it retains its rugged spirit while featuring a shorter blade and a distinctive Bowie profile. Its individual serial number and its sheath marked “Buxton Fighter” give it a distinct identity within the Randall universe.
On this example, the blade bears the number BF 1187. The “S” associated with the Randall hallmark indicates the use of stainless steel. The satin finish reveals the different surfaces of the grind, while the long back bevel and the curve of the cutting edge give this massive blade a particularly expressive silhouette.
The BF 1187’s design is distinguished by its double brass guard curved toward the blade, whose rounded ends are unpierced. Its design complements the Bowie’s lines and lends a more classic touch to the overall look. The polished brass creates a warm contrast with the steel and the hues of the handle.
The brown Micarta (officially green!) with khaki highlights reveals a fine grain and concentric patterns, particularly visible on the sculpted sides of the handle. These variations add depth to the material. The Border Patrol shape features a continuous curve, widening at the ends, with no forced fingerprint indentations.
Note that a small indentation is visible at the very bottom of the handle (see detailed photos). It is difficult to determine whether this is a defect, the result of an impact, or some other event that caused this irregularity. In any case, it is present, and the price has been reduced accordingly, although it in no way affects the mechanical qualities of this particular knife.
The tang remains visible on the back of the handle and extends to its tip. This metal extension, pierced to accommodate the green lanyard, highlights the knife’s sturdy construction.
The brown leather sheath is a key part of this set’s appeal. It features a pocket for the whetstone, a retaining strap, and green laces for fastening. Its specific marking—“Buxton – Randall Made Knives – Orlando, FLA – Fighter”—identifies it as the sheath for this model.
On the back are the signatures of Wayne and David Buxton, both inscribed on the same piece of leather. This unique feature adds a personal touch to the piece and enhances its appeal for collectors interested in the history of the Dealer Specials. The knife’s serial number and the signatures on the sheath are two complementary details, best appreciated as part of the whole rather than in isolation.

Tellknives Review
This BF 1187 boasts a particularly harmonious design. The brown of the Micarta (officially green, but sometimes delightful color variations emerge!), the warmth of the brass, and the leather sheath come together to create a natural palette, while the satin-finished blade provides the necessary contrast. The patterns on the handle are worth a closer look: their depth almost gives the impression of wood grain, with all the character of a material that’s been carefully worked and shaped.
The curved guard also plays an important role in this design. It complements the blade’s curve and reinforces the Buxton Fighter’s Bowie-style appearance. In our view, this configuration particularly well captures the fusion of the model’s military origins and the elegance of a great American collector’s knife.
Finally, the signatures of Wayne and David Buxton add a human touch to the piece. While they do not serve as proof of a limited edition, they distinguish this set from a simply numbered specimen. For a Randall enthusiast, the pleasure lies precisely in this combination: an identifiable Dealer Special, an attractive configuration, and a sheath bearing the names associated with its history.
