The Spyderco JaniSong C191GP offers a unique take on the rotary-action folding knife. Designed by Michael Janich, it incorporates certain principles of the balisong (butterfly knife) in a design consisting of an outer handle, an inner handle, and a blade, all connected around a common axis.

The blade is deployed by rotating the inner handle 360°. The outer handle serves as the grip area, designed to keep the fingers away from the cutting edge during use. An ambidextrous sliding latch secures the knife in the closed position (though it can also be engaged in the open position) and reinforces its hold when open.

The CPM-S30V stainless steel blade features a full-length flat grind and a smooth cutting edge (on one side only). Black G10 scales cover the handle, while a deep, four-position clip allows for customizable carry.

Manufactured in Taiwan, the JaniSong holds a special place in the Spyderco lineup due to its mechanism and design, which are quite different from the brand’s conventional folding knives.

Tellknives Review:
We appreciate the Spyderco JaniSong for the originality of its construction. Its appeal lies as much in understanding the mechanism as in using it: it invites you to discover a different way of designing a folding knife. We would particularly recommend it to Spyderco enthusiasts or those interested in knife mechanics who wish to enrich their collection with a model that operates in an unusual way.
