The Spyderco Military 2 SC36GPBK2 EDC folding knife, designed for tactical and military use, retains the basic design of the Military 2 whilst featuring a particularly striking all-black finish. The CPM S30V stainless steel blade features a black DLC coating, whilst the liners, clip and fasteners have a matching finish.

This finish is not merely for aesthetic reasons. Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) forms an exceptionally hard coating on the blade’s surface and significantly reduces glare. The result also gives the Military 2 a much more tactical look than the satin-finished version.

The 10.2 cm blade is made from CPM S30V, a powder-metallurgy stainless steel offering an excellent balance between edge retention, corrosion resistance and ease of maintenance. Its Full Flat Grind preserves the excellent cutting qualities that have always been one of the Military range’s key strengths.

The textured black G-10 handle offers excellent grip and conceals skeletonised stainless steel liners. Despite its generous dimensions — 24.2 cm when open — the Military 2 weighs just 124 gr.

The switch from the LinerLock of the previous Military model to the Compression Lock is the major development in this second generation. In particular, the system allows the blade to be unlocked without placing your fingers directly in its path.

The four-position clip completes this evolution and now allows the knife to be carried on either the right or left side, with the tip pointing upwards or downwards.

The Military 2 retains all the versatility of the standard version, whilst adopting a much bolder all-black design.

Technically, this Military 2 remains very similar to the SC36GP2 with a satin-finished blade. Visually, however, its character changes completely.

The DLC coating, black hardware, black clip and matching G-10 handle give the knife a sense of cohesion that we find particularly well-executed on the Military 2’s larger dimensions.

The choice of CPM S30V may seem almost conventional compared to the many high-end steels now offered by Spyderco. We see this as a distinct advantage in this version: proven performance, good corrosion resistance and sharpening that is significantly less demanding than some ‘super-steels’ particularly rich in carbides.
And then there’s this astonishing feature of the Spyderco Military 2: 24.2 cm in open length for just 124 gr. Despite its imposing appearance, it remains remarkably light in the pocket.

Between the satin-finished S30V model and this one, the choice will therefore depend less on performance and more on the desired aesthetic: classic and functional for the former, more discreet, tactical and decidedly all-black for the latter.
