Survival knife, fixed-blade camping and bushcraft knife: Randall Made Knives Model 12-9 Sportsman Bowie, forged carbon steel, Ironwood handle, brass guard and pommel, brown leather sheath.

Randall is a legendary American brand founded in 1938 (!) by Bo Randall, who was arguably one of the most influential cutlers of all time; judge for yourselves:

- many of his models were used in every war since the Second World War, and the more historical a model is, the higher its value!!!

- NASA equipped astronauts with one of its models, developed specifically to these specifications (model 17 ASTRO), and in 1961 it was issued to the crew of the Mercury 7 mission, thus becoming the first knife in orbit!

- The catalogue features 28 models, all of which can be personalised

- The current waiting time for an order is… 7 years… the price of excellence!

- As the list of accolades and special features is still quite long, here’s a link for the more curious amongst you.

This model is a 12-9 Sportsman Bowie and is shown here in an outdoor/survival version with a guard and pommel in solid brass, and a handle in Arizona ironwood.

Visually, it certainly looks substantial and imposing (given the size of this ‘toy’, it’s hard to pass for a ballerina…), but the chosen features undoubtedly lend it a certain air of class.

Our verdict: Randall is a must-have for any collection. The Model 12-9 Sportsman Bowie is relatively little-known and falls into the medium-to-large size category (yes, really – there are bigger ones, much bigger ones, in fact!).
