With the VENATUS F, Extrema Ratio is launching a new family of knives specifically designed for hunting and, in doing so, is revealing a rather unusual side to its expertise.

Clean lines, a satin-finished blade, a genuine walnut handle and a leather sheath: this is a far cry from the black tactical world that has built the Italian manufacturer’s reputation!

The result is particularly impressive.

The VENATUS F retains the robustness characteristic of Extrema Ratio, whilst adapting it to a much more versatile hunting knife. Its 11.9 cm Spear Point blade features a flat grind and a reasonably modest thickness of 3.8 mm, offering an excellent balance between strength and cutting efficiency.

This version features a blade made from Böhler N690 steel, hardened to 58 HRC. This tried-and-tested stainless steel offers an excellent combination of edge retention, wear resistance and stability, and is perfectly suited to a knife intended for regular use in the field.

But it is, of course, its walnut handle that gives this version its very own distinctive character.

Warm and traditional, the wood contrasts superbly with the blade’s satin finish and radically transforms the usually very technical aesthetic of Extrema Ratio knives.

The Italian brand has also introduced an interesting innovation with the sheath. Made from leather, it is ambidextrous and modular: it can be worn vertically on the belt or thigh, or horizontally once the rear strap has been removed.

A truly beautiful Italian hunting knife, both traditional in its materials and resolutely modern in its design.

We’ve been waiting a long time to see Extrema Ratio apply its expertise to a proper hunting knife, and this first VENATUS model strikes us as particularly impressive.

We particularly appreciate the balance the brand has struck: the construction remains solid and robust, without falling into the excesses seen in some tactical knives. With a 3.8 mm blade and a genuine flat grind, the VENATUS F is, above all, designed for efficient cutting.

This walnut version is our favourite in the range. The wood and leather lend it an almost classic elegance, whilst the satin-finished blade and clean lines immediately preserve the Extrema Ratio identity.
